Engine Application: Built for Chevrolet Small Block engines with conventional perimeter bolt heads, listed for the 283, 307, 350 and 383 stroker. The same perimeter bolt pattern also typically suits the 327 and pre-1987 400 builds, but worth confirming against your specific heads before ordering. Suits classic Chevrolets, Camaros, Novas, Corvettes, El Caminos, hot rods and SBC swaps where a clean, no-logo black look is the goal.

Perimeter Bolt vs Centrebolt is Critical: SBC Bolt Pattern Fitment: SBC heads come in three valve cover bolt styles, and they are not interchangeable. The earliest staggered perimeter bolt heads (1955 to 1959) use an offset bolt pattern around the edge. Regular perimeter bolt heads (1959 to 1986) use the well-known evenly-spaced perimeter pattern. Centre bolt heads (1987-on) use bolts running down the middle of the cover, common on Vortec and late TBI motors. These covers fit regular perimeter bolt heads only. The easiest visual check is whether the existing covers bolt evenly around the edges, in an offset edge pattern, or down the centre..

Steel vs Cast Aluminium Construction: Pressed steel construction is lighter on the wallet than cast aluminium and gives a smoother, simpler look with no fins or detailing. The steel pressing also has a slimmer profile in the bolt flange area than thick cast aluminium, which can help in tighter engine bays where intake clearance or accessory bracket fitment is tight. The trade-off is that steel does not dampen valvetrain noise quite as well as cast aluminium and is more prone to denting if struck during install or removal.

Black EDP Finish: EDP (electrophoretic deposition) is an industry-standard coating process where paint is electrostatically applied to the metal in a dipping bath, producing an even, fully covered finish across every surface including underneath the cover and inside the bolt holes. The result is a corrosion-resistant black finish that is more consistent than spray paint and harder wearing than a basic powder coat in tight or recessed areas. Common on factory and aftermarket components where rust resistance matters.
-
Tall Profile Clearance: The taller cover height clears a high-lift camshaft, roller rockers, shaft mount rockers and stud girdles commonly used in performance SBC builds. If you are running a high-lift camshaft, the standard height covers often foul the rocker tips, which is where the tall profile earns its place. Worth measuring your tallest valvetrain component against the listed cover height before committing.
-
Smooth No-Logo Aesthetic: The plain, no-logo design suits sleeper builds, restoration projects, work trucks and clean street machines where engine bay branding is unwanted. Pairs well with black accessory brackets, black push-in breather caps, black air cleaners and wrinkle or black intake manifolds for a cohesive blacked-out look. Also a strong choice for builds where the focus is on the rest of the engine bay rather than the valve covers.
-
Included Hardware and What You Need Separately: Comes complete with internal baffles. Push-in breather caps, grommets, valve cover gaskets and the retaining bolts and washers are sourced separately, so plan to add these to the order. AAA lists a separate breather cap and grommet listing, which is the easiest way to keep ventilation set up correctly.
- Practical Buyer Tip: EDP-finished steel covers benefit from gentle cleaning to keep the finish looking clean. Use a soft microfibre cloth and mild engine bay cleaner, and avoid harsh degreasers, abrasive pads or wire brushes that can scratch through the coating and expose bare steel underneath. Any small chips or scratches are worth touching up promptly with a high-temp black engine paint to keep rust from creeping in around the damage.
