Engine Application: Built for the Small Block Ford Windsor 289 and 302 engine family. Suits classic Mustangs, Falcons, Fairlanes, Cobras, Broncos, F-trucks and Australian Falcon Windsor builds. Also a strong fit for Windsor swaps into hot rods, customs and street machine builds where a bright polished dress-up package ties the engine bay together.
-
Windsor vs Cleveland is Critical: Ford 289 and 302 Windsor and the 302C / 351C Cleveland are completely different engine families with different cylinder heads and different valve covers. They are not interchangeable. Windsor covers are narrower with bolts closer in, while Cleveland covers are wider with bolts further out and a more rectangular footprint. Confirm you have Windsor heads (not Cleveland) before ordering. The 302 Windsor and 302 Cleveland are the most common mix-up.
-
Tall Finned Profile: The tall design clears a high-lift camshaft, roller rockers, shaft mount rockers and stud girdles commonly used in performance Windsor builds. Standard height covers often foul on aftermarket roller valvetrain, which is where this profile earns its place. The raised fin design draws on factory performance styling from the 1950s and 1960s.
-
Polished Aluminium Finish: Hand polished cast aluminium gives a bright, reflective finish that picks up engine bay lighting and complements chrome accessory trim. The polish runs across the fin tops and side panels, giving the cover visual depth from any angle. Holds up well in covered or garaged builds and benefits from occasional touch-up polishing in coastal or humid conditions.
-
Cast Aluminium Construction: The cast aluminium body is thicker and more rigid than pressed steel covers, which helps dampen valvetrain noise and resists distortion around the bolt holes when torqued properly. The mass of the casting also gives a more substantial feel and look than thinner stamped covers.
-
Polished Finned Aesthetic: Strong fit for chrome-themed engine bays, classic Mustang and Falcon restorations, hot rod Windsor builds and show cars where a bright dress-up package is the goal. The fins echo period-correct 1960s performance styling. Pairs naturally with a polished aluminium air cleaner, chrome alternator brackets, polished breather caps and a matching polished or chrome timing cover.
-
Included Hardware and What You Need Separately: Comes with internal baffles, self-tapping screws, two grommets for breathers, and the valve cover retaining bolts and washers. Source Windsor-specific valve cover gaskets separately, as gaskets are not included and Cleveland gaskets do not fit the narrower Windsor footprint. A push-in breather and PCV valve are typically sourced separately to suit your ventilation setup.
- Practical Buyer Tip: Polished aluminium benefits from occasional attention with a quality aluminium polish like Autosol or Mothers Mag and Aluminium to keep it bright, particularly in coastal or humid conditions where oxidation can dull the finish over time. Avoid harsh degreasers and abrasive pads that can scratch the polish layer. Worth ordering fresh Windsor gaskets at the same time as cheap insurance against oil leaks during initial run-in.
