• Application: The 3½" (89mm) 45 degree elbow suits mid-to-large turbo intake plumbing, intercooler piping on V6 and V8 turbo builds, and high-flow cold air induction systems. 89mm is a popular middle-ground size between 76mm and 101mm, often used on turbo LS swaps and modified import builds where 3" is too restrictive but 4" is overkill.

• Why 45 Degree Matters: A 45 degree bend gives smoother airflow than a 90 degree elbow with less pressure drop across the bend. On boosted setups two 45s in series can replace a single 90 in tight engine bays, giving better flow while still making the directional change the routing needs.

• Leg Length Context: With 125mm of straight section on each leg, this elbow gives ample clamping surface on both sides without needing extra couplers for clamp positioning. If your routing needs more length on one side, an 89mm straight hose can be joined inline.

• What to Pair With It: Clamps suited to around 99mm O.D. are required, as the outside diameter of 89mm I.D. silicone hose is roughly 10mm larger than the inside diameter. T-bolt clamps are recommended on this size, especially on the charge pipe side of a turbo system. Worm drive clamps can work on low-pressure intake sections but T-bolts give more even clamping force on mid-large silicone under boost cycling.

• Practical Buyer Tip: Confirm your pipework is true 89mm O.D. before ordering. Some intercooler kits use 87mm or 90mm piping which will not seal reliably on 89mm hose. If existing pipework varies in size, a reducing elbow is the right solution rather than overtightening clamps to force a poor fit.
