Application: The 127mm to 114mm reducing elbow steps down from 5" to 4½" piping while also making a 90 degree directional change. This is used on big bore turbo intake systems and large intercooler piping runs where the pipe diameter needs to step down (commonly at the throttle body, turbo outlet, or after the intercooler) and the routing also needs to turn 90 degrees in a tight space.
-
Why Reducing Elbow Over Two Parts: Combining the reduction and the bend into one piece saves a clamp joint, reduces potential leak points, and is shorter than running a straight reducer plus a separate elbow. On big bore plumbing where space is often tight, this matters for fitment and reliability under boost.
-
Confirmed Specs: 5mm wall thickness with 4-ply reinforcement. Rated 43 to 130 PSI working pressure with a 275 PSI burst rating. Temperature range of -60°C to 260°C. UV, water and ozone resistant. These specs give solid safety margin for sustained boost on serious performance builds.
-
Direction of Flow: This elbow can be installed either direction, with the 5" end going first or the 4½" end going first depending on where the reduction needs to sit in your pipework. Most commonly the larger end faces the airflow source (turbo outlet or intercooler) and the smaller end feeds toward the throttle body.
-
What to Pair With It: You will need a clamp suited to around 137mm O.D. for the 5" end and a clamp suited to around 124mm O.D. for the 4½" end, as the outside diameter of Takashi silicone hose is roughly 10mm larger than the inside diameter. T-bolt clamps are essential at these diameters under boost as worm drive clamps do not apply enough even pressure on large silicone to hold reliably.
- Practical Buyer Tip: Confirm both pipe diameters before ordering. The 5" end must connect to true 127mm O.D. pipework and the 4½" end to true 114mm O.D. pipework. Aftermarket intercooler kits sometimes use slightly different actual diameters than their nominal labels, so measuring the actual pipe O.D. is the only reliable check.
