Application: The 2½" (63mm) humped joiner is one of the most commonly used sizes in turbo intake plumbing, suiting 4 and 6 cylinder turbo builds, mid-size intercooler piping runs, and aftermarket charge pipe kits where the routing crosses between engine and chassis. 63mm is a popular size on Subaru, Mitsubishi and similar turbo platforms.

Why Humped Over Straight Joiner: The raised hump in the middle gives the joiner flex that a straight coupler does not have. This absorbs engine movement, vibration and small misalignments between two pipe ends. On boosted setups where the engine rocks on its mounts under load, a humped joiner prevents stress at clamp points and reduces the chance of pipes blowing off.

Where To Position It: Install the humped joiner in the section of pipework that crosses between two different mounting surfaces, typically between the engine and the body, or between the turbo outlet and a chassis-mounted intercooler pipe. Putting it in a rigid pipework section gives no benefit, so placement matters more than just picking a size.

Construction: Multi-ply silicone with internal reinforcement maintains shape stability while the hump section retains the flex needed to absorb movement. The blue exterior with white Takashi logo suits visible engine bay builds where colour-matched silicone is part of the visual finish.

What to Pair With It: Clamps suited to around 73mm O.D. are required, as the outside diameter of 63mm I.D. silicone hose is roughly 10mm larger than the inside diameter. T-bolt clamps are recommended on boosted applications. The humped section makes worm drive clamps even less suitable here because the constant flex movement loosens worm drive clamps over time. T-bolts maintain consistent clamping pressure through repeated vibration cycles.

Practical Buyer Tip: Do not overtighten clamps trying to compress the hump. The hump needs to retain its shape to do its job. Tighten clamps to seal the pipe ends only, not to flatten the joiner. Overtightening also crushes the silicone at the clamp point and can cause it to tear under boost cycling.
