Windsor vs Cleveland is Critical: Ford 289 and 302 Windsor and the 302C / 351C Cleveland are completely different engine families with different cylinder heads and different valve covers. They are not interchangeable. Windsor covers are narrower with bolts closer in, while Cleveland covers are wider with bolts further out and a more rectangular footprint. Confirm you have Windsor heads (not Cleveland) before ordering. The 302 Windsor and 302 Cleveland are the most common mix-up.

The coating is rust resistant, which adds durability over standard black paint, particularly useful in engine bay conditions with heat cycling and the occasional weather exposure.

Cast Aluminium Construction: The cast aluminium body is thicker and more rigid than pressed steel covers, which helps dampen valvetrain noise and resists distortion around the bolt holes when torqued properly. The mass of the casting also gives a more substantial feel and look than thinner stamped covers.

Included Hardware and What You Need Separately: Comes with internal baffles, self-tapping screws, two grommets for breathers, and the valve cover retaining bolts and washers. Source Windsor-specific valve cover gaskets separately, as gaskets are not included and Cleveland gaskets do not fit the narrower Windsor footprint. A push-in breather and PCV valve are typically sourced separately to suit your ventilation setup.
- Practical Buyer Tip: The Mystery Black coating is more durable than standard black paint but still benefits from gentle care to keep it looking sharp. Use a soft microfibre cloth and mild engine bay cleaner, and avoid harsh degreasers, abrasive polishes, wire brushes or scotch pads, particularly around the fins where coating damage shows up quickly. Worth ordering fresh Windsor gaskets at the same time as cheap insurance against oil leaks during initial run-in.
